Power of the Pivot

Spoiler alert: we almost canceled this year's Intentionally SoulFULL Siesta. Imagine us planning this for months, recently returning from a fantastic trip to El Salvador to see the retreat space up close, and then deciding to flush it all down the drain. We were extremely close but decided to push forward anyway.

We believe in the power of the pivot because it's something we do well. A pivot isn't just a change of direction; it's an opportunity to get out of our comfort zones. Moving beyond our comfort zones can be scary, especially if you're not ready. However, when you're pushed off the cliff and away from what you've known, you happen to fly, allowing the wind to guide you.

It's easy to beat ourselves up when plans don't go as intended. When the funding plan we'd been working on for months began to crumble before our eyes, we were ready to admit defeat.Yes, the easy route was to cancel, but then we remembered that several paths could lead you to the same ultimate destination. For us, this change of direction includes inviting our personal and greater community to walk alongside us.

Deciding to pivot can be intimidating; however, it can also propel you into new ideas of what's possible. The inner critic is real, and for a moment, we started to wonder if anyone would support our mission of creating financially accessible, high-quality wellness experiences for Black and Brown women. But you all proved our inner critics to be liars and helped us raise over $700 in two days to go into our retreat fund. We can't help but think how close we were to canceling something we had poured so much energy into. Thankful that we didn't because we wouldn't have been able to savor the sweetness of this moment or celebrate our community helping make it possible.

How do you deal with challenges, friend? Do you immediately want to quit and throw in the towel? Or do you throw on your gloves, sip your water, and put your game face on before stepping into the ring? We did a bit of both but ultimately decided that our vision was worth fighting for. We hope that the next time life hits you with a quick sucker punch, you remember that even though things may be more complicated than you expected, you already have what's needed to battle it out to pivot.
